TIA Issues a Ballot for FOTP-203 IEC-61280-1-4 Fiber Optic Communication Subsystem Test Procedures- Part 1-4: General Communication Subsystems- Light Source Encircled Flux Measurement Method

Arlington VA. (March 21, 2024) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-42.12 Engineering Committee on Optical Fibers and Cables has issued a ballot on document TIA-455-203-B initially titled “FOTP-203 IEC-61280-1-4 Fiber Optic Communication Subsystem Test Procedures- Part 1-4: General Communication Subsystems- Light Source Encircled Flux Measurement Method”.

TR-42.12 is developing guidelines in the area defined by the following scope: This FOTP is intended to characterize the encircled flux of two types of light sources: transmission light sources, which are usually coherent and substantially under-excite the mode volume of a multimode fiber, and measurement light sources, which are incoherent and must excite most of the mode volume of a multimode fiber.

Stakeholders are invited to contact TIA regarding participation in the development of this and other TIA standards. The stakeholders may include, but are not limited to: Manufacturers and users of telecom and datacom.

TIA is seeking broad input as per the public review announcement in ANSI’s Standards Action for directly and materially affected parties. In addition, we are actively seeking participation in this process from the user and general interest communities.

For more information about TR-42 and how to participate in standards development with TIA, contact Cheryl Thibideau at standards-process@tiaonline.org.
