TIA Issues a Ballot to Reaffirm FOTP-71 Procedure to Measure Temperature- Shock Effects on Fiber Optic Components

Arlington VA. (March 21, 2024) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-42.12 Engineering Committee on Optical Fibers and Cables has issued a ballot to reaffirm document TIA-455-71-A initially titled ” FOTP-71 Procedure to Measure Temperature- Shock Effects on Fiber Optic Components”.

TR-42.12 is developing guidelines in the area defined by the following scope: This document describes a procedure to define the exposure conditions for testing resistance of fiber optic components to temperature shock. It also outlines the general approach used for measuring and evaluating the ability of a fiber optic component to withstand sudden changes of ambient temperature that could arise during shipment, storage, or use.

Stakeholders are invited to contact TIA regarding participation in the development of this and other TIA standards. The stakeholders may include, but are not limited to: Telecom, Optical Fiber Manufacturers, Developers and Users.

TIA is seeking broad input as per the public review announcement in ANSI’s Standards Action for directly and materially affected parties. In addition, we are actively seeking participation in this process from the user and general interest communities.

For more information about TR-42 and how to participate in standards development with TIA, contact Cheryl Thibideau at standards-process@tiaonline.org.
