Arlington VA. (March 21, 2024) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-42.12 Engineering Committee on Optical Fibers and Cables has issued a ballot to reaffirm document TIA-455-86-A initially titled “FOTP-86 Optical Fiber Cable Jacket Shrinkage”.
TR-42.12 is developing guidelines in the area defined by the following scope: This standard is applicable to all types of jacketed cables. This procedure defines the methodology for measuring the shrinkage potential for cable jackets. The primary method involves the jacket, in situ. The secondary method measures the “native” shrinkage of the as-extruded jacket by removing it from a cable. Project need: Provide updates for an existing standard.
Stakeholders are invited to contact TIA regarding participation in the development of this and other TIA standards. The stakeholders may include, but are not limited to: Cable designers, cable manufacturers, connectivity designers.
TIA is seeking broad input as per the public review announcement in ANSI’s Standards Action for directly and materially affected parties. In addition, we are actively seeking participation in this process from the user and general interest communities.
