TIA Issues Call for Interest on new Project for FOTP- 203 IEC-61280-1-4 Fibre Optic Communication Subsystem Test Procedures- Part 1-4: General Communication Subsystems- Light Source Encircled Flux Measurement Method

Stakeholders Invited to Contact TIA Regarding Participation.

Arlington VA. ( March 02, 2021) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA)

TR-42.12 Engineering Committee on Optical Fibers and Cables has issued a call for interest for document TIA-455-203-B initially titled “FOTP- 203 IEC-61280-1-4 Fibre Optic Communication Subsystem Test Procedures- Part 1-4: General Communication Subsystems- Light Source Encircled Flux Measurement Method “. TR-42.12 is developing guidelines in the area defined by the following scope: “This FOTP is intended to characterize the encircled flux of two types of light sources:  transmission light sources, which are usually coherent and substantially under-excite the mode volume of a multimode fiber, and measurement light sources, which are incoherent and must excite most of the mode volume of a multimode fiber.”

The stakeholders may include, but are not limited to: Manufacturers and users of telecom and datacom.

TIA is actively seeking participation in these projects from the user and general interest communities.

For more information about TR-42 and how to participate in standards development with TIA, contact Cheryl Thibideau at standards@tiaonline.org.

A major function of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) is the writing and maintenance of voluntary industry standards and specifications. These activities are carried out by the volunteer members of TIA engineering committees. On the public engineering committee pages, users will find recent meeting reports, agendas and notices for upcoming meetings, as well as links to some of the most popular standards from each committee. TIA is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
