TIA Issues Call for Interest on new Project for FOTP-3 Procedure to Measure Temperature Cycling Effects on Optical Fiber Units, Optical Cable, and Other Passive Fiber Components

Arlington, VA (June 11, 2019) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-42.12 Engineering Committee on Optical Fibers and Cables has issued a call for interest for document TIA-455-3-C initially titled FOTP-3 Procedure to Measure Temperature Cycling Effects on Optical Fiber Units, Optical Cable, and Other Passive Fiber Components.

TR-42.12 is developing guidelines in the area defined by the following scope: “This document is to revise ANSI/TIA-455-3B to 1. Harmonize rate of temperature change with IEC 60794-1-22, Method F1 2. Harmonize temperature precision with IEC 60794-1-22, Method F1”

The stakeholders may include but are not limited to: Users of optical fiber such as optical fiber cable manufacturers and their customers, optical fiber transmission and test equipment manufacturers, specifiers of optical fiber and cable such as telecommunications companies and standards bodies that define transmission protocols.

TIA is actively seeking participation in these projects from the user and general interest communities.

For more information about TR-42 and how to participate in standards development with TIA, contact Marianna Kramarikova at standards@tiaonline.org.

A major function of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) is the writing and maintenance of voluntary industry standards and specifications. These activities are carried out by the volunteer members of TIA engineering committees. On the public engineering committee pages, users will find recent meeting reports, agendas and notices for upcoming meetings, as well as links to some of the most popular standards from each committee. TIA is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Visit tiaonline.org.
