TIA Issues Call for Interest on New Project For FOTP-84 Jacket Self-Adhesion Test for Optical Fiber Cable

Arlington VA. (March 27, 2024) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-42.12 Engineering Committee on Optical Fibers and Cables has issued a call for interest for document TIA-455-84-C initially titled “FOTP-84 Jacket Self-Adhesion Test for Optical Fiber Cable”.

TR-42.12 is developing guidelines in the area defined by the following scope: FOTP-84 Jacket Self-Adhesion (Blocking) Test for Optical Fiber Cable (The intent of this test procedure is to investigate the ability of the jacket,  insulation or other outer covering of fiber optic cable on a reel, drum, or spool, to withstand elevated temperature for prolonged periods of time without sticking to itself on adjacent turns or layers).

Stakeholders are invited to contact TIA regarding participation in the development of this and other TIA standards. The stakeholders may include, but are not limited to: Telecom industry, specifically cable and connector manufacturers and assembly.

TIA is seeking broad input as per the public review announcement in ANSI’s Standards Action for directly and materially affected parties. In addition, we are actively seeking participation in this process from the user and general interest communities.

For more information about TR-42 and how to participate in standards development with TIA, contact Cheryl Thibideau at standards-process@tiaonline.org.
