TIA Issues Call for Interest on New Project for Measurement of Splice or Connector Loss and Reflectance Using an OTDR

Arlington VA (April 2, 2026) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-42.13 Engineering Committee on Passive Optical Devices and Fiber Optic Metrology has issued a call for interest for document TIA-455-8-A, initially titled “Measurement of Splice or Connector Loss and Reflectance Using an OTDR”.

TR-42.13 is revising TIA-455-8 Measurement of Splice or Connector Loss and Reflectance Using an OTDR which the intent of this test procedure is to describe the use of an optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) to indirectly measure the loss and reflectance of a splice or connector.

Stakeholders are invited to contact TIA regarding participation in the development of this and other TIA standards. The stakeholders may include, but are not limited to: Fiber optic manufacturers, test laboratories, telecom users, telecom installers.

TIA is actively seeking participation in this process from the user and general interest communities.
